We are all spirit beings inhabiting a human form, so I try to uncover my subject's spirit and reveal more than just the surface texture of the temporary body or vehicle. Light and dark are the way we determine and perceive form, but they are also an analogy for our spiritual state. The body is such a beautiful vehicle for our soul.

PETER MATTHEWS
Peter Matthews is a recognized South African artist and photographer, and has exhibited his work both in South Africa and internationally. His art is represented at a number of galleries in South Africa. Peter produced a series of paintings for the internationally acclaimed feature film, ‘Oil on Water’ and since then, has been invited to talk on the subject of Art in Film, to many art institutions, including the D'Arts Society. He is also the illustrator for the Animal Adventures in Africa children’s book series, published in various countries around the world and about to be produced into an animated television series. 'Looking is not the same as seeing' - Peter believes that both art and photography are about seeing and that is only possible when one is present in the moment. These moments are real and spontaneous. His ability to capture life in art has led to his success with the international market in his art.
